Introducing Aleisha Sibhoun Gardner

Aleisha was born in Auckland, New Zealand and, encouraged by her mother (a former dancer), began ballet classes at the age of 4. Aleisha moved to Melbourne, Australia at the age of 16 to join The Australian National Theatre Ballet School. Achievements include ‘New Zealand Ballerina of the Year’ and prize winner of the ‘Sir John Logan Campbell Trust Ballet Award’.

After graduating with an Advanced Diploma of Arts in Classical Ballet and awarded ‘Dux’ of her year, she moved on to perform principal roles such as ‘Zobeide’ (Scheherazade), ‘Aurora’ (Sleeping Beauty), ‘Medora’ (Le Corsaire), ‘Myrtha, the Queen of the Willis’ (Giselle), ‘Fairy Godmother’ (Cinderella), ‘Snow Queen’ (The Nutcracker), ‘Principal Girl’ in Matthew Thompson’s “thres(h)old” and her final and much-loved role ‘Sylph’ (La Sylphide).

In 2008 she moved to Romania, becoming a member of the Teatrul de Balet Sibiu. Over her time in the company she has performed soloist roles in numerous ballets, re-staging the repertoire and choreographing original works for the company including ‘Four Seasons,’ in 2013, performed numerous times though Romania and Europe. ‘Impetus,’ in 2014, ‘Check please!’ and ‘Turavura Uvetura’ together with Russell Hewey, in 2014 and 2015 respectively. ‘Sînt o babă comunistă!’ in 2015. ‘La Fille Mal Gardee’ together with Alexandru Fotescu in 2015, ‘Einstein’ in 2016, ‘Class Concert’ together with Mihai Babuska in 2016, ‘Straussiana’ together with Mihai Babuska in 2016, ‘Peer Gynt’ in 2017, ‘La Bayadere’ together with Kirill Ermolenko in 2017, ‘The Nutcracker’ together with Kirill Ermolenko 2017, ‘Bolero’ in 2018, ‘Legaturi’ in 2018, ‘Fragile’ in 2018, ‘Rhapsody in Blue’ in 2018 and various other shorter classical and contemporary works.

She has also toured with the company to South Korea, China, France, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Japan, Czech Republic, Italy, Sicily and numerous cities around Romania.

Aleisha was one of the first dancers to join Teatrul de Balet Sibiu when the company began in 2008. She is married to a Romanian and has a young daughter named Ruby, three dogs and two cats and enjoys travelling.
