Introducing João Gomes
Born in Leiria, Portugal, João started dancing at the age of 7 at Academia Annarella. At the age of 15, he had the opportunity to study at the International Conservatory of Ballet and Dance Annarella Sanchez where he had the privilege to dance in many classical ballets including „Giselle”, „Don Quixote”, „La fille mal gardée”, „Coppelia”, „Paquita”, „Sleeping Beauty” and „The Nutcracker”.
In 2016, João was invited to dance in „The Nutcracker” with Opus Ballet and in 2018 he has performed as a guest artist in Gala’s in Portugal and Romania. João has won prizes at international competitions in pas de deux and ensembles categories. In 2018 he was in the top 12 finalists at the Youth America Grand Prix dancing the variation of Franz in „Coppelia”.
João has worked with different ballet personalities such as Julio Bocca, Maina Gielgud, Annarella Sanchez, Ramona de Saa, Elena Cangas, Venus Villa, Caridad Martinez, Enrique Perez Cancio, Misha Tchoupakov, and others.
In 2019, at the age of 18, he received his first contract at Sibiu Ballet Theatre where he had the opportunity to perform classical and contemporary ballets, having the chance to do solist roles such as: „Jester” in „Swan Lake” and napolitan solist in „Nutcracker”, “Azazel” in Barroco Party (by Sergiu Anghel) and autumn three boys in „Anotimpurile” (by Aleisha Gardner). He performed Paquita variation, Fairy Doll pas de trois and contemporary pas de deux „Motus” (by Marco Palamone) in different galas.
