Introducing Johan Mancebo
Born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Johan began his dance studies when he was 9 years old. He was part of the first class of male dancers graduating from the National Dance School of the Dominican Republic.
Johan participated in the Cuballet Summer Intensive in 2011, and won the bronze medal in the pas de deux category in the 21st Century Panama 2013 Competition.
A former dancer of Dominican National Ballet, Johan has been a guest artist with the company Coda 21 of Puerto Rico for their production „Alice in Wonderland” in 2014. He also was a part of the Washington Ballet Studio Company in 2015, performing in many productions including „Sleeping Beauty”, the world premiere of Sleepy Hollow, „Alice in Wonderland” and „Swan Lake”.
Johan has been a part of various ballet Galas including Concrete Benefit Gala – Torrado 2016, XXI San Sebastian International Dance Day Gala 2017, Guest dancer in the choreography “IRHEKI” by Jon Ugarriza, 50th Anniversary Velatia, Royal Theater of Madrid 2018, III V gala „To Colmenar scene” 2016, 2018, Closing Gala competition Castellón 2016, Segovia in dance 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019.
He then moved to Madrid with a scholarship to continue his studies for four years in 2015. He is a graduate teacher in pedagogy of the Cuban Ballet School by the Alicia Alonso Dance Institute in Spain. Here, Johan was awarded for his talent as a dancer for the years 2015 to 2019. He danced with the company Madrid’s Great Chamber Ballet where he performed soloist roles such as: Colas in „La fille mal gardée”, Albretch in „Giselle”, Franz in „Coppelia”, James in „La Sylphide”, Siegfried in „Swan Lake”, Acteon, Jean De Brienne in „Raymonda”, Prince in „The Nutcracker”, Basil in „Don Quixote” among others.
He joined Sibiu Ballet Theatre in 2019 where he has participated as a corps de ballet in the production of „Swan Lake”, „La fille mal gardée” and „The Nutcracker”. He also performed as Rothbart in „Swan Lake”, Spanish Dance, Rat King and Harlequin in „The Nutcracker”. He has also worked with different pieces of the neo-classical and contemporary repertoire of the company.

Johan is a keen performer also of dance styles such as bachata, salsa, merengue. He enjoys relaxing with friends over a cold beer and his favorite dance role is Acteon.
